March Words of Wisdom

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island. --Walt Disney

We are in the golden age of music. There will be a time when technology becomes so advanced that we'll rely on them to make music rather than raw talent. Music will lose its soul. --Freddie Mercury

A good song should give you a lot of images; you should be able to make your own movie to a good song. --Tom Petty

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie. --Jim Davis

I am devoting the rest of my life to healing, so that my soul will always feel like home. --Janine Tamis

You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love. --Jim Carrey

If you expect the world to be fair with you because you are fair, you're fooling yourself. That's like expecting the lion not to eat you because you didn't eat him. --John Spence

The slap heard 'round the internets

Will Smith smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars because of comments Rock made about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and the internets had a field day.

Back to the parking lot

Spotted this car in the parking lot when I was leaving the salon this morning:

I can't remember the last time I saw a working DeLorean. Bet that car is a boatload of fun. The owner probably can't go anywhere without someone wanting to chat him or her up about it.

Jump around!

I love Daylight Savings! We should be on it year long.

Don't forget to spring forward tonight!

Now we know why the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are on horseback...

The way gas prices are going, riding horses is going to be cheaper than driving cars. And horses are expensive. You never pay them off. You pay and pay until one of you finally dies. They are money pits. Beautiful, wonderful money pits that I would like to have about a dozen of, but money pits nonetheless.

The internets have spoken:

For the record, late night host Stephen Colbert is paid $15 million per year by CBS. He has an estimated net worth of $75 million. So yeah, he can afford to be flippant not just about the price of gas, but the price of well, anything. Most people however do not have that luxury. Yeah, like Kyle Kashuv said above, they're laughing at our pain. Message received: The elites, our betters as they consider themselves, don't care about our suffering. They'll be fine and that's all that matters.

The cheapest gas at the cheapest station in my town (we have four) skyrocketed from $4.65 to $5.29 within the last week. Previously it had been inching up 10 cents/gallon at a time every four weeks or so.
I don't know how people who have to commute are doing it. They have to really be hurting. And what are our so-called leaders and elite doing? Blaming it all on the war in Ukraine, despite the fact that everyone knows prices have been going up for months. That's what they think of us. Blatant lies and they don't care. They are vile.

Dress to kill

One of the perks of being a member of Mystery Writers of America is the invitation to the Edgar Awards, which the organization presents annually in New York City. I've yet to attend for a number of reasons, but I always get a kick out of the dress code.

The good news is that as a member, even if I don't attend they'll send me a copy of the program.

Will I ever make it to the Edgars? Never say nevermore!

How about never

For some reason, this showed up in my email today:

There's so much to unpack here, but let's get this one out of the way right off the bat. I once opened or clicked on an email from them (which I would not have requested in the first place, so they bought it off a mailing list) and that alone puts me on your mailing list? And how do they even know if something in my email was clicked on and/or opened? Yeah, that's not creepy at all.

Moving on:

Yes, I previously supported your party. I think it was back in the day when I voted for Bill Clinton because I totally fell for the whole "out with the corrupt old boys club and in with the new, forward thinking fresh blood" bit. Fool me once...

Thanks for the nightmare fuel!

You wish someone like me represented the heart of your party. Instead, you're represented by the likes of Nancy Pelosi and other corrupt pols who get rich off their connections while the rest of us are agonizing over record inflation (yeah, I just love watching my investments, which had been doing so well the past few years including a record high, plummeting by the day) and skyrocketing gas prices.

Yesterday evening near my home. Where does this end?

Not to mention all the talk of World War III going on. Bang up job, guys.

And as for the actual heart of your party, it is pitch black and rotten to the core, populated by corrupt so-called leaders who don't give a crap about the American public. You are the reason people hate and distrust politicians of both parties. Oh, and once again, I didn't join your mailing list, so stop inferring that I welcome your intrusion into my personal email. How often do I want updates? How about never.

Years ago at one of my jobs I spent some time assisting our Marketing Manager. At one point we met with people from a company that sells mailing lists and it was seriously disturbing how much information they are able to not only accumulate about the public without their knowledge, but also how eager they are to sell off this information. Totally intrusive, kind of like getting an unsolicited email that takes the approach that I requested it when we both know I didn't.

I'm out.

Oh, and Jessica? I marked your email as spam in the hopes that next time Yahoo doesn't put it in my inbox. That's my preference for interacting with you.

Great news!

The official announcement hasn't been made yet so no details right now, but this morning I learned that I will have another publication to add to the four on the right sidebar. There's so much to be happy about with this one that I will go into once the announcement has been made, but I can tell you it was much needed and appreciated good news! YAY!!!

Four years

Four years ago this evening my Mom passed away in her sleep. The time has gone by so fast. My Dad will be eleven years in May. It doesn't feel anywhere near that long. So bizarre.

When I think about all my dead relatives, it isn't any one person I miss in particular, it's everyone. It's the whole family. Most of my family was pretty young when I was born (Dad 21, Mom 19-1/2) so with the exception of my Grandfather, who was diagnosed with emphysema the year before I was born and died when I was twelve, so I was fortunate that they were all around for most of my life, including adulthood. And I really miss having everyone around. I'd love to go back to those days.
